What was missing on the WinRM listener was the "basic" auth mechanism. Looks like the default config only has Kerberos and Negotiate authentication enabled (which was news for me). --> This should be added to the documentation I guess. I have attempted with kerberos, negotiate and credssp authentication and receive the same errors across the board. Any assistance would be great.
Nov 27, 2011 · If we wanted to just configure a single system, we could just run the command winrm quickconfig manually to configure WinRM, but if we want to do this on many managed systems, Group Policy is definitely the way to go. So we are going to create a new GPO and under Computer Configuration / Policies / Windows Components / Windows Remote Management ... Select Require user authentication for remote connections by using Network Level Authentication and double click on it. Now lets configure the client settings to make sure that we always select to warn in the case the host certificate con not be authenticated.
